ISM - FFC invites you to join us for a plant tour of Republic Service.
This tour is acceptable for all age groups. The Material Recycling Facility (MRF) is an impressive 70,000 square foot green facility dedicated to the mechanical and hand sorting of recyclable materials. Here, your group will be able to see how single stream recycled materials (aluminum, plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, cartons, and Styrofoam) are processed to be sold as commodities. The MRF includes an Educational Center which is designed to teach the community about what recycling is, what materials are recyclable, how materials are recycled and how the community benefits from recycling. The MRF Education Center includes an interactive touch screen computer game, an overview of the facility and live feeds from the sorting lines. In the MRF Education Center, group will have the opportunity to see finished products made from recycled materials that were incorporated into the design of the facility including benches, tables, carpet, counter tops and window blinds. At the end of the tour, Republic Services hopes you will leave with a better understanding of how important recycling is and what it takes to be a recycler for life.
